We are pleased to inform our dear customers that a new revision of the firmware was released. Critical bug fixes: * Fixed bug that was preventing wireless mouses to work properly. * Fixed compatibility issues with some USB Joysticks. * Fixed bug that was causing an unexpected repeating of characters when typing. Most important changes: * Improved system keypress handling (works better with emulators) * System now will set a lower resolution on boot, if composite video output is used. * Newest version of Bromite WebView installed. * You can see the notification progress in the notifications list. Experimental feature: * You can switch keyboard layout by pressing "Alt+Shift". * For now, only the Russian alternative keyboard layout is supported. TauonSpeccy: * You can use the Pause/Break button to bring up the menu (consistent with Tauon RetroArch configuration) * Configuration file now will be stored inside the TauonSpeccy folder. RetroArch cores: * We highly recommend using cores that are pre-installed. We can`t guarantee that updated cores will work better or work at all. DOWNLOAD

Ahoy, I haven't upgraded since V0.94 because I have done so many customizations to Tauon OS and it would be a real chore to recreate my system. Is there any way to save these aside from saving the added APK files to an sd card then reinstalling from that? If not I guess I'll list everything I need to do then set aside a day to do it. I'm really behind. DaveyB

Yes, save all installed apks to the card. Also, you can copy the content of the internal memory - /sdcard/ folder to keep most of your data files. Back up any important data. Then proceed with the update.

Ahoy, I'm trying to BU my system to do the upgrade and I've tried to mount 3 sd cards: 2 64Gb and one 128Gb. My Tauon OS V0.994 will not mount any card I've tried. Is this a card size issue? I have an old 4Gb card somewhere if that's the problem. I know the computer sees it ok because I can boot EBasic and Armbian just fine. It's just Tauon OS that doesn't know its there.
So I hooked the Tauon to a hub and I useing my HDD to BU the files. But I have all my ROMs (~79Gb) for Retroarch on a 128Gb card so this is important. I'd prefer not to have to hookup a HDD to play games if possible.
Sorry to whine but I'm curious about the SD card thing. If there is a better topic to use for this please let me know. DaveyB

Ahoy,
One more problem, my Tauon is not updating. Note: I do not have a working Windows system available to use Win Imager stuff.
The problem appears to be that the contacts on the card slot don't work too well. The solution was to push the card in, pull out a touch then jiggle it. My system is now updated. Thanks for understanding. DaveyB

I'm glad that you have found the solution. SD->microSD adapter is a frequent cause of problems with cards too.

Ahoy, OS V1.08 is a vast improvment over v0.994 of course. I've been experimenting with RetroArch and cores. I'll post more about that on the RetroArch threads soon.
I have a couple questions. First, I seem to remember seeing a way to set/unset favorites on the desktop but can't find it now. Where is that done? In the same vein, I like the program grouping in the Desktop button on the left side. How to I edit those? Say I want YouTubeTV in multimedia or Ghost Commander in utilities. Can that be done?
Thanks in advance for the help. And an awesome job with the upgrade. daveyb

Hi,
I got a used Tauon PC with firmware 0.99, yesterday. I wanted to update to the latest firmware and wrote the image to a 4GB and a 8GB SD Card (full size, no micro). But after inserting the card and power on the PC, it just boots into the desktop. I can see the SD-Card in the file manager. But obviously, the firmware update does not work. Any idea? Should I try an older SW version first? Any known issue or wrong procedure?
Best regards, Rene

Hello, Have you tried to mount it through the External Card app? The SD card with firmware should appear blank, but still could be mounted. Have you used recommended flashing tool? In the worst case, you can try to flash the firmware to the micro-sd card and insert it directly into the Tauon PCB.

Hello,
I used win32diskimager as well as Etcher. I did not use the External Card app. But I could see the contents of the card (android folder etc.) in the download file manager. If that is a possible way, I think I will try flashing a new micro sd card. Anyway, I just started with the Tauon, so I guess, I will succeed sooner or later.
Thanks for the advise!
Rene

There should be no "Android" folder on the firmware card. You probably are looking at the internal storage. By some strange engineering decision, the Android system is calling internal storage "sdcard" and mounts it to /sdcard/ path. Content of the real SD Card, when mounted, appears in /storage/[SD_CARD_SERIAL]/ folder.
A new version of the firmware (1.09) is undergoing testing now and hopefully would be released tomorrow. I would recommend you to wait for it.

Thank you. I now managed to update the SW. The bootloader seems to be a bit picky regarding the sd cards. I had no chance with 4GB and 8GB full size Transcend cards. But with a 2GB micro sd card and adapter, I could update to 1.0 and 1.08. I am still struggling with 1.09. I always stops at 30..50%. I already changed sd cards and re-wrote the image. I also used the internal slot. Writing 1.08 again worked at once. Strange, I will try again later. 1.08 is still better than 0.99.

Thank you for reporting the issue with 1.09 firmware. It was found out that files weren't uploaded to the server in full. Please re-download firmware using the same link as before.
