This firmware uses a special edition of the "Win 98 Simulator" app by LR-Soft as a launcher, bringing the stunning 98-sh experience to your TauonPC. Firmware contains tons of handpicked 8-bit pixel art (C64, Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum). This is NOT an x86 emulator. You won't be able to run x86 apps or games using this firmware. Ahoy, This may sound stupid but I just want to make sure of something before I try this. Does this simulator run from an SD card? I don't want it to replace the Tauon OS on the eMMC internal memory.
It looks like a bit of fun. Will it fit on a 4Gb Card? I have 3 I'm not using. daveyb

hello, this firmware will replace TauonOS on the device. It is still 100% compatible with all software, and all apps that come with TauonOS are there.

Ahoy, Thank you for the prompt reply. I want to keep my Tauon OS on my 1st machine but I have a 2nd PC-1 coming soon. I bought it on eBay and it shipped yesterday. When it arrives I'll try this on Tauon #2. Thanks for the effort to make this.
Incidentally I was an IBM OS/2 guy at home until 2008 when my email and browser programs broke w/no further updates. I still have a Dell box that boots eComStation (OS2 Warp 4.55). But that screenshot sure looks a lot like my work computer screen during the '90s. daveyb

Good day, I received my 2nd Tauon PC-1 yesterday. I installed the nostalgic firmware today. It was very realistic, looking like a stock Win98 desktop. The windows apps run well although most don't allow changing many settings i.e. you can't change the font in Write. Internet Explorer cruises the web but some modern things aren't supported. I went to the Tauon homepage and no video When I went to shutdown the only option seemed to be the shutdown at the start menu. One oddity was no matter if I choose shutdown or reboot the simulator reboots and comes back to the Win98 desktop as does ctrl-alt-del. So I choose the command prompt option and it drops me to command.com. I wait a little then turn off the power. Next time I run it I'll take a look at the art pictures. All the Android apps ran as usual also. Surely it is a bit of fun. daveyb
